*This book is fantastic! It's a great story about the life of a true family during the Great Depression. I highly recommend this book to everyone, it keeps you engaged throughout the whole story. -Ashley Campbell
*This book is really good. The fact that it was all about a realy family and so well written. My family is from that area as well. Sure wish my grandma was still living to ask her all about it. The descriptions and details were perfection. Make sure to read it.-Catherine L.
*I was so excited to meet Robert! Everyone needs to go out and buy a copy of 'A Book of Matches' NOW!-Stephanie Hennessey
*Robert really hit the nail on the head with this one, It's really great to have a hot item in our store again!"-Bob Blake
In “A Book of Matches” Robert Hawkins documents the life, service, and tragic death of an upstanding American World War II veteran. It is a beautiful story of an upstanding young man, a cadre of strong women, and a close-knit Appalachian community that evolves throughout the changes of time and social ripples of the murder. In “A Book of Matches” Hawkins shows the compassion, fraternity, and persistence of a people rising through the struggles of the Great Depression, World War II, and post war economic hardship. I don’t think I have read a book that shows the long-lasting effects the loss of a single life can have on a family as well as this one has. It is a must read book that has a much greater scope than one would expect and shows the happiness and beauty a single life can bring to so many. -Michael San Miguel
I just finished 'A Book of Matches'. Wow! What an exceptional read. I throughly enjoyed it and was emotional at times. This is coming from someone who is not an avid reader. However, I think you have a God-given talent. Great job. Again, I truly enjoyed it. -A. Haslam Moore
